About Opulent Giant Schnauzers

In-House Procedure – Performed at 7 Weeks Old

At Opulent Giant Schnauzers, we proudly offer in-house ear cropping for an additional fee of $900 as part of our full-service breeding program. This allows us to personally oversee and ensure the health, safety, and cosmetic precision of every crop performed.

Ear cropping is done at exactly 7 weeks of age, when cartilage is still soft and most responsive to shaping — which results in better healing and long-term ear stand success.

We perform this procedure with experience, precision, and attention to the traditional Giant Schnauzer look, offering our clients cropped pups that are not only beautiful, but healthy, well-cared for, and prepared for life.

📌 What is Ear Cropping?

Ear cropping is a cosmetic surgical procedure where a portion of the dog’s ear is shaped and removed to encourage upright, erect ears — a traditional and iconic look in the Giant Schnauzer breed.

When done correctly and followed with proper aftercare, cropped ears not only enhance the regal and alert appearance of the breed, but may also help reduce moisture buildup and infection risks in active dogs.

At Opulent Giant Schnauzers, we believe in responsible cropping. We prioritize your puppy’s comfort, health, and recovery throughout the entire process.

🏥 In-House Cropping: What Sets Us Apart

Unlike breeders who outsource the procedure, we perform ear cropping in-house at exactly 7 weeks old, ensuring:

•✂️ A clean, sterile, and calm surgical environment

•📏 Breed-appropriate, symmetrical crops designed to suit each puppy’s head shape

•🧠 Constant monitoring before, during, and after surgery

•💉 Immediate post-op care, including pain management and antibiotics

•🐾 Hands-on follow-up care and education for our buyers.

Because we control the entire process, we ensure that no detail is missed — from the first incision to the final ear stand.

🧼 Aftercare & Healing Process

Proper healing and ear development do not stop at surgery — the aftercare period is absolutely essential to achieve a successful, clean ear stand.

🗓️ Weeks 1–2: Healing Period

Goal: Allow incisions to close and reduce risk of infection

•💊 Medication: Pain relievers and antibiotics are administered as needed after surgery.

•🧴 Wound Care: We clean the ears daily using a safe antiseptic, and provide guidance for how to care for the ears once the puppy goes home.

E-Collar: Puppies are fitted with a cone to prevent scratching, rubbing, or damaging the sutures.

•⛔ No Posting Yet: We allow a full healing period before posting. Sutures are removed between days 10–14 depending on healing progress.

🎯 Posting the Ears: Weeks 2 and Beyond

Ear posting is the process of training the ears to stand by supporting them with foam rods and tape. Without proper posting, the ears will not stand, regardless of the surgical crop.

We begin posting once the ears are healed and sutures are removed. Your puppy will remain in our care during the initial posting sessions to ensure proper placement and a healthy start.

🧷 What is Used for Posting:

• Foam backer rods (custom cut for each pup)

• Porous medical tape

• Optional skin-safe adhesive (if needed)

• Gauze pads or padding (as needed)

Each post is carefully placed inside the ear and secured with tape. A bridge may be added between the ears for balance. Posts are replaced every 5–7 days, or sooner if they get wet or loose.

⏱️ How Long Does Posting Last?

Posting duration varies by pup, but you can expect:

•🐶 Ears with shorter crops: 4–6 weeks of posting

•🐕‍🦺 Medium to long crops: 8–12+ weeks

•🛠️ Some ears may need 3–4 months of support

We will help you evaluate when your pup is ready to stop posting.

🧡 Ongoing Support for Our Buyers

Whether you’re local or out of state, we provide full education and support for your puppy’s ear care:

•🎓 Live demonstration of how to post at pickup

•📞 Phone and video call assistance

•🛍️ Posting supply kits (if needed)

•🧰 Optional re-posting service for local buyers

•📸 Progress checks via photo or video

We understand this is a big responsibility — and we don’t leave you to figure it out on your own.

🐾 Important Do’s & Don’ts
